IAIT in collaboration with Sikkim Manipal University (SMU) in Delhi and Dehradun has setup centers of excellence to provide quality education in the field of IT and Management through the Distance Education programs. IAIT offers SMU courses from Graduate to Post Graduate level. There is a wide variety of courses that are offered which range from Management, IT, Healthcare, Journalism. A student can either decide to go for a degree course or a shortened diploma course depending on a need basis.

Sikkim Manipal University (SMU) is the result of a unique partnership between the Government of Sikkim and Manipal Education. Established in 1995, it is the first government-private initiative in the region. It was set up with the objective of providing the best in education for students. Sikkim Manipal University Directorate of Distance Education is recognized by Union ministry of HRD, UGC and DEC.  SMU DDE offers more than 40 programs at Diploma, Graduate, PG diploma and PG degree levels in various disciplines like Information Technology, Telecom Technology, Management Studies, Commerce, Allied Health Science, Biotechnology & Bioinformatics, Journalism & Mass Communication, Fashion Design, Hospitality and Tourism and Ecology and Environment.

Sikkim Manipal University of Health, Medical and Technological Sciences, Gangtok is incorporated under the State Legislative Act (Act IX of 1995) of the Government of Sikkim.

Sikkim Manipal University is recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC), Ministry of HRD and is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), it is recognized by Distance Education Council (DEC).

Sikkim Manipal University, Directorate of Distance Education offers programs spread across 10 disciplines, these programs are in Masters, Bachelors, Diploma and PG Diploma levels in various disciplines like Information Technology, Management, Journalism and Mass Communication, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Apparel & Fashion Design, Allied Health Sciences, Hospitality, Telecom and Commerce.

Apart from the widespread presence in India – covering 205 districts and 310 towns and cities – the University has also spread its reach overseas across 20 countries, with 25 learning centers

Sikkim Manipal University-Distance Education (SMU-DE) program has been voted the Best Distance Learning Institute in India in terms of Results & Efficiency. It is the only institute in the top 3 that is not an open university.
